crane fly, on a leaf of a tree near the don river.

etobicokehead fired his chief of staff today, and rumour has it that it was in response to pressure to just come out and admit he had a substance abuse problem, then handle the situation from a point of (partial) honesty.

in other news, several pieces of garbage that should have been kicked all the way to prison remain unfortunately free today, despite the fact that it has been found that they broke the law and committed fraud during an election. welcome to canada, where we don't enforce the law if you're a conservative sack of shit.

crane fly on a leaf, in partial shadow. more shooting along the don river.

the crackstarter, to which i've contributed, has over $100 000.00 pledged to it now, with six days remaining. you can spare a few dollars, i'm sure, and it's for a tremendously good cause.

in other good news, we're not getting stuck with a casino that would only be profitable for a few conservative rich twits and cost everyone else a big pile of cash. fuck you twice with hands full of crackpipes and poker chips, you stupid fucking buffoon.

...

and, more on flickr stupidity - any old tags that you repeatedly use now don't come up when you start typing the first letter or two. the wizards at yahoo somehow forgot that people often use the same tagsets repeatedly and like it when they appear on a minimal prompt. that kind of web utility that has been in place for over twenty years is apparently not something they thought to perpetuate. fucking jackasses.

correction - the tags do come up, but the process is very glitchy. i stand by the jackasses comment.

further edit: i can see no way to add a photograph to a selection of groups after having been uploaded. this used to be a simple process with a dropdown menu. another tool ruined, or is it merely hidden somewhere that you'd have to be a braindead yahoo executive to find?

further edit, again: found the spot to add shots to groups, tucked in a corner under a mystery icon that reveals no information about itself when you mouseover it. gee, that's smart. incidentally, it's the ellipsis lookalike in the bottom right corner of the black frame above, just to the right of the diagonal arrows that direct you to view in lightbox. that spot also has the exif data and a few other details that all used to be top-left in the old format. clearly it makes sense to relocate all this in the polar opposite location on the page, and to not identify it in any way. fucking hell, the yahoo brain trust are inbred microcephalics.

fly. on a leaf.

“let me give you a suggestion on how you deal with hard-core drug addicts,” mr. ford said. “this is not drinking wine or smoking a joint, this is heroin or cocaine. with heroin or cocaine, you end up one of two ways: dead or in jail. that’s it. there’s only two ways.”

this asshole has consistently and loudly opposed any and all public health initiatives, particularly harm reduction strategies. though there are clearly far more options available to anyone using any substance, may his own words curse him.

and, don't forget: the national right-wing scumbags should be imprisoned too.

after all the disgusting, repugnant squalour of the past two days, it's a relief to again be presenting the beauty of the insect world.

bee on dandelion

i have tried for a few years to get dandelions to grow in pots on my patio, with limited success. this year i had several doing well, and today i saw all but one had disappeared. odd, but not a catastrophe, of course, and only after a neighbour dropped by while i was messing about with the pots did i learn that she'd seen the weeds in my garden and decided to help out by removing them.

i didn't have the heart to tell her i'd been deliberately growing them. the flower and bee above are not in my garden.
